Morphometric Studies on the Bones of Thoracic Limb of Korean Native Cattle Steers with Postnatal Development

Abstract
The morphometric studies of the bones of thoracic limb of 128 Korean native cattle steers were examined with postnatal development. Korean native cattle steers of birth, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 28, 28 and 30 months of age were used. The bones of thoracic limb of Korean native cattle steers (n = 8 tattles per age) was prepared by dry bone preparation, and the osteometry was performed in each bone.
The results were as follows;
1. As a result of measuring 7 items of scapula, all items of scapula were significantly different(p$lt;0.01 and p$lt;0.05) in birth-2 month. The development of the length of scapula and spine was significantly different(p$lt;0.01) in 10¡12, 18¡20 and 22¡24 months. The development of the length of scapula, the length of spine, the width of supraspinous fossa and the longitudinal diameter of glenoid cavity was significantly different(p$lt;0.01 and p$lt;0.05) in 18¡20 months. The scapula indexes were 56.04 in birth and 58.71 in 10 months; it increased to 60.76 in 20 months and reached 61.1 in 30 months.
2. The development of the length of humerus, the width of trochlea, the length from dorsal end of the neck to moat ventral point of trochlea, the transverse diameter of head, the longitudinal diameter of head, the height of trochlear, the width of intertubercular groove, the width of proximal end and the width of distal end was significantly different(p$lt;0.01 and p$lt;0.05) in birth¡2 month. The humerus indexes were 28.04 in birth and 35.55 in 30 months The trochlea-epicondyle indexes were 42.03 in birth and 60.1 in 30 months.
3. The length of antebrachium was 219.7¡¾2.52§® in birth and 427.1¡¾13.14§® in 30 months. The development of the length of antebrachium was significantly different in birth¡2 month, 4¡6 months(p$lt;0.01), 2¡3, 6¡8, 10¡14 and 20¡24 months(p$lt;0.05).
The length of radius was 161.3¡¾3.06§® in birth and 326.8¡¾7.55§® in 30 months. The development of the length of radius was significantly different in 6¡8 months(p$lt;0.01), birth¡4, 18¡20 and 22¡24 months(p$lt;0.05).
The length of ulna was 209.3¡¾4.04§® in birth sad 403¡¾13.21§® in 30 months. The development of the length of ulna was significant different in birth¡2 month(p$lt;0.05), 2¡8, 12¡14, 16¡18 and 22¡24 months(p$lt;0.01)
4. The length of matacarpal bone was 168.3¡¾1.53§® in birth and 225.3¡¾9.45§® is 30 months. The development of the length of metacarpal bone was significantly different(p$lt;0.06) in 2¡6 months.
